The girls arrive in a foreign world, and without any time to figure out what has happened, they are attacked by 'girl trafficers' who sell girls. Yui is grabbed, and Miaka hurls herself at Yui's attacker, temporarily knocking him out, but they are out-numbered. Out of nowhere, a man appears and attacks the men, saving Miaka and Yui. He is tall and handsome, with a red character blazing on his forehead: the sign of the ogre (oni). The attackers flee, leaving Miaka and Yui with their savior.

They thank him and ask for his help, but he replies that 'appreciation should be shown by money', to which Miaka searches for some cash to give him. As she does this, Yui chases after him angrily, he flees, and she is absorbed by light and brought back to the real world. Miaka finds the money in time to see Yui has disappeared and the man with her. She hitches a ride on a cart to find the man and learn where he took Yui. She believes he has kidnapped Yui.

Miaka: 'That guy was good looking, but he kidnapped Yui-chan, so I won't forgive him'

Once in the city, she spots her handsome savior, and runs to catch upto him. She loses sight of him, and asks everyone around her if she saw a handsome man with the sign of the ogre on his forehead. A strange man approaches her in a friendly manner, and tells her the man with the ogre character is his friend, and he will take her to him. Meanwhile, word has travelled fast of a strange girl that arrived in Konan (the name of the city they're in). The man with the ogre hears all this and wonders if it is one of the girls he rescued.

The strange man with Miaka brings her to a dirty, poor street, and out come evil men who want to rape and sell her. The strange man is with them, and they prepare to attack her. She defends herself, in a most hilarious scene, attacking them with 'western wrestling' moves like 'Hip Attack' and 'Body Slam'. She was doing pretty good, when the man who brought her there pulled her by the leg, knocked her down, and pinned her beneath him. Things looked very scary for Miaka, when again, out of no where, the man with the ogre sign appeared, he quickly attacked the girl trafficers and saved Miaka.

In the touching scene that follows, Miaka looks at her savior with tearful, and fear-filled eyes, and grabs the man in a hug. He looks surprised but touched. She asks him where Yui is, and he replies he doesn't know and turns to leave again, but Miaka is not about to let him get away so easily. She grabs him, makes him fall down, and says she won't let him go until he tells her where Yui is. He surrenders, waving a white flag, gets up, and says 'I don't know', to which Miaka begins to chase him, and he runs away from her.

They run across the city, Miaka begging him for help: "Don't you have any kindness? A girl seprated from her friend. I'm roaming around an unkown place. Are you a MAN??!!', she asks frustrated. To which the man stops abruptly and says 'Shit, what a rotten thing to say. You're not important because you don't have any money (okane). If you ask someone, expect to pay." He holds out his hand. "So give me in advance."

Miaka: You always talk money. is it such a big deal to you? to which he replies., 'Yes as a matter of fact.'. Miaka gets angry and accuses him of having sold Yui and yells out that he is a girl trafficer causing quite a scene. The man embarassed, picks Miaka up and runs with her away from the crowd she has formed.

Miaka threatens that she will tell everyone he is a trafficer unless he helps her. He says 'But I'm NOT a trafficer' 'I know' she says, to which she is promtly dropped on the ground. Miaka apologizes and tearfully tells him that she needs help to find Yui, because she feels sorry for her, both lost in a strange world, and unable to get back home. The man feels moved, sighs, and decides to help Miaka.

At that moment, the emperor of Konan travels through the city, and the man comments to Miaka that the emperor is rich and that with one gem from his crown, it would be easy to find Yui. Miaka runs upto the emperor's carriage and tries to talk to the emperor. She causes a scene and the soldiers get angry and get ready to kill her for 'disrespecting' the emperor. Miaka had no idea her actions could be misconstrued, and had thought it perfectly allowable to talk to the emperor. Just as she is about to be beheaded, her savior comes and rescues her again.

The man yells at her, and makes her cry, to which he says 'Don't cry. I'll look for your friend out of respect for your bravery.' At this point, they introduce themselves, and we learn, the man's name is Tamahome. They smile warmly at eachother and Miaka says that she has no reward for Tamahome, for helping her. He says 'Don't worry. I'll take one now', and he looks at her tenderly, and kisses her on the forehead. (Great Miaka and Tamahome moment)

The soldiers see them and try to attack, but a red light surrounds Miaka and Tamahome. Miaka begns to disappear, she sees Yui in the real world at the library, but can't contact her. When she reappears, the emperor orders Miaka and Tamahome to be both taken and imprisoned. In the prison, Miaka dreams of Yui as her mother, and wakes up from the nightmare clutching Tamahome.

Tamahome asks Miaka what she is and what the red light was. She can't answer that but talks of Yui and how she knows now that Yui has gotten back to the real world. Her eyes fill with tears and sadness of not knowing how to get back home, and Tamahome tells her:

Tamahome: Don't cry, don't worry. I'll help you. I already got my payment from you in advance (meaning the kiss). He smiles at her.

They escape the prison through the help of bubble gum. In a funny scene, Miaka blows a bubble, making the guard think she is a monster, and he loses the keys which Tamahome catches. He looks at her to tell her 'great job', and then gets scared by the gum covering her face, and crashes into a wall, yelling MONSTER! (HAHAHAHA!)

They escape the prison, and Miaka has given Tamahome a stick of gum, to which he is ALL excited about and says he won't give it back to Miaka, even if she asked. She says 'It's only bubble gum! You are so stingy.' The two enter a dark room, and see a statue of Suzaku. They become separated, and Miaka wanders outside of the palace, and runs into a person who looks like a beautiful woman.

Meanwhile, Tamahome is searching frantically for Miaka, but gets caught by the soldiers. They carry him to the place where Miaka and her companion sit talking. Her companion grabs her and tells her to hide. Miaka watches as Tamahome tells the guards he doesn't know where Miaka is, and they begin to hurt him. Miaka rushes out and yells at the guards not to hurt Tamahome.

Tamahome: Miaka! Why are you here?

Miaka: Because I can't leave you behind.

A soldier grabs Miaka from behind, and she screams. Tamahome's symbol blazes, he breaks the ropes he's been tied in, attacks the soldier and protects Miaka. 'If even one finger touches her - I'll take care of you' he threatens the soldiers.

At this point, Miaka's companion stops the fighting and takes Miaka and Tamahome under his care. We learn that he is the emperor, Hotohori, and is a MAN, Miaka is shocked because he is so beautiful, and promptly goes to feel his chest. 'Flat...that means he has some other mysterious body part somewhere', to which Tamahome comes and says 'Don't go that far!' and knocks her out of the emperor's way. (heeeheheh:) )

In the next set of events, Hotohori tells Miaka about the legend of Suzaku and that she is the girl of the legend, Suzaku No Miko. He asks her if she will accept the role as Miko and she does. With this, Miaka learns both Miaka and Tamahome are 2 of the Suzaku seishi, out of 7, which are needed to call forth Suzaku, to protect Konan, to grant Miaka's wishes, and to return her home.

The next morning, she wakes up from a nightmare where she's asking her brother, Keisuke, for help to return to the real world. She wakes up holding Tamahome's hand. Tamahome is in her room because she is depressed, and he tells her that Hotohori is worried about her. Miaka looks up at Tamahome:

Miaka: And were YOU worried about me?

Tamahome: Yes

Miaka: I'm happy.

Tamahome: You're news all over the country . . . because of Suzako No Miko, I can live in this palace . . .

Miaka: Don't bother yourself - I'm not lonely. If I were to worry - it would be about where to get fresh underwear.

Tamahome then grabs Miaka and holds her tight.

Tamahome: Don't be unreasonable. When you feel like it, cry hard.

Miaka: Yes

Tamahome: As an exception, I will be your brother, without charge.

He hugs Miaka tighter and Miaka collapses into his embrace. She think to herself 'So warm...'

Tamahome tells her she must gather the seishi to call Suzaku if she wants to return home. Miaka then runs to find Hotohori and together the 3 try to figue out how to find the other seishi. Tamahome comments that he hopes the other 5 are all beautiful women, and Miaka throws him a dirty look, and says she hopes they're all handsome men.

Tamahome decides he shall fight all the men who have been gathered, Konan's finest men in regards to academic and physical value, in order to find who is a seishi. This fails. Miaka then decides she will anger the men until they fight which will cause their symbol to show. She insults the soldiers very badly, they get angry, and she runs, amazed that they would take her that seriously. One of them hurls a mallet at her, misses and it crashes into one of the pillars holding up the building she was standing in. It crashes around her, and Tamahome runs quickly to protect her. He lies on top of her, both buried deep under rubble and heavy stone.

Tamahome is using all his strength to prevent the stones from crashing down on top of Miaka and himself, and Miaka asks him why?

Tamahome: I said I'd protect you, so no matter what, I'll protect you.

Just as the weight is becoming too much, the 3rd seishi, a beautiful person, who appears to be a woman, named Nuriko, comes and flings the stones away as if they were flies. She saves Miaka and Tamahome. Nuriko takes an instant 'liking' to Tamahome and proceeds to lavish her attention on him. He, though, tries everything to get away from her.

As tamahome complains of his pain, Miaka thinks to herself: 'Tamahome, when you did that (saving her under the rubble). . . my heart was overwhelmed. He went that far to save me...because I'm Suzaku No Miko? . . . or? . . .'

Already, we see the bond these two have forged together. Now, Miaka gets very jealous over how Nuriko behaves with Tamahome. When she thinks of how Nuriko kisses Tamahome, she says how it 'pissed her off'. She decides she must get long with Nuriko, no matter how horrible Nuriko treats her or how much she goes after Tamahome. In a funny scene, Miaka is washing her underwear, and has just taken off her bra, when Tamahome runs in, sees her naked, she screams out 'Pervert!', while he tries to cover up his eyes (unsuccessfully), he tells her he just wanted Miaka to help him hide from Nuriko. This is imporant in showing how close he and Miaka have gotten since their first meeting.

Later, Miaka is doing chores for Nuriko, and Nuriko has just hurled a table at her. Along comes Tamahome, and Nuriko acts all pouty and asks why Tamahome hates her, to which he replies 'I don't HATE you', and this makes Nuriko gush over him. Miaka sees this, and hurls the table, trying to hit Nuriko, but hits Tamahome instead! (hahahahaha!)

Later that day, quitely thinking, Miaka sees Tamahome. He'd finally escaped Nuriko and came to Miaka. Miaka is happy to see him but says that Tamahome must be overjoyed becuse he is loved by a beautiful lady. To this, Tamahome replied 'DO you think I'm happy about it?' and he begins to walk away. Miaka, upset that he would be angry with her, tries to run after him, but falls, because her leg is hurt from the accident under the building she and Tamahome had been trapped in.

Tamahome looks at her tenderly and tells her that she is putting too much stress on her leg. Worried about the cut on her leg, he nurses it, and his eyes are bright, tender, and serious. Another seriously tender bonding moment! :)

In this following scene we see how Miaka has begun to have feelings for Tamahome. It is an especially revealing scene about Tamahome:

Miaka: Do you really like Nuriko?

Tamahome: Not in the least. . . She's not my type.

Miaka: Really?

Tamahome begins to laugh: Ah...I see you're jealous . . . I'm handsome, strong, kind, and marvelous. It's such a sin. Sorry. I want money more than love. (He begins to laugh hysterically)

Miaka: That's not right!!

Miaka then thinks to herself, 'If so, I feel sorry for Nuriko. It's not jealousy'. [ALOUD] 'Are you going to laugh forever? AAARGGHHH!!!'
