Miaka and Tamahome, a couple in love that conquered time, distance, evil and different dimensions in order to be together. Their love is what saves the world in the OAVs, as it is needed to keep Suzaku alive and to defeat the evil god Tenkou. Their love is an inspiration and a source of encouragemtn and strength to those who need it.

I have devoted an entire website to their love story, Miaka and Tamahom.com, and it explains, in detail, how their love began and evolved in both the anime and the original manga. On this page though, I shall just briefly explain the story of their love and its signifiance in Miaka's life.

Neither Miaka or Tamahome has ever had anyone to love or had anyone love them back in the romantic sense. Both had family and friends, but when it came to matters of the heart, neither had found the right person. Little did they know that they would meet their soulmates within the pages of an enchanted book.

Miaka's and Tamahome's love begins amidst danger and harrowing trials. Yet both find time to become friends, to talk and get along, to learn about eachother, and to fall in love. Their closesness is apparent even at the beginning of the story when Nuriko is chasing after Tamahome, and he rushes into Miaka's room to find her, and have her save him from Nuriko. It's also obvious when Miaka is depressed about not being able to return home, and yet Tamahome hugs her and tells her that if she needs to cry, not to hesitate, but to cry hard if she needs to.

Miaka realizes she is in love with Tamahome before he himself realizes his own feelings for her. Both have already been through so much together, and Miaka needs to know if he loves her or has any feelings for her. Tamahome is not used to girls loving him and does not know how to answer her when she tells him she loves him. He cannot believe that someone like Miaka could actually LOVE him. Yet when she falls sick and returns to her world, we learn that Tamahome went BONKERS and chewed on plates and sat in a daze 24/7. Finally when Miaka returns, Tamahome admits to her that he had not known how to answer her admission of love. Later, when Miaka has ran off to Kutou, Tamahome chases after her and tells Nuriko:

Tamahome: So far I've lived only for my family. Until my family was happy, I thought I should put all my wishes aside. So I paid no attention to women. But suddenly Miaka appeared. She filled my heart. I love her. So I'll risk my life for her.

Miaka repeatedly says that when she is with Tamahome she feels warm, safe, and loved. It makes her very, very happy. She blushes and gets all happy thinking about being Tamahome's bride. She is the best thing that ever happened to Tamahome, and he to her. Their love is deep, and very true. Tamahome loves Miaka despite her gluttony, her ditziness, her naivete, and clumsiness. Miaka loves Tamahome despite his money-hungry ways, especially when we learn that it was ALL for his family.

Their love conquers the 2 different worlds - Konan and the real world - to be together in the real world. Tamahome becomes reborn as Taka, and both renew their love and fall in love all over again. Miaka, having to get used to TAKA and everything that he is. Their love is a miracle that has seen through the greatest tests, most horrific events, and just kept growing stronger.

At the end of the manga, we learn Miaka and Tamahome get married and have a beautiful little son - a product of a miraculous love.
